Applications of Narrative Coaching; Social Presenting Theater and Movement to facilitate change

CCEUs: 1 Core and .5 Resource Development

Description: During this interactive session, the participants will be exposed to three somatic/non-verbal techniques from different theorists that facilitate client awareness and sustainable behavior change. Joy will provide brief background on each technique; describe a client case where used, and then invite the participants to experience the work themselves in breakout groups. Participants will leave the session having been “moved” on their own personal/ professional issue and with tools they can immediately apply to current coaching clients.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the coaches will be able to:

  • Identify three non-verbal techniques that facilitate shifting a client’s perspective on a coaching challenge
  • Learn coaching applications and results from these techniques
  • Apply and experience three non-verbal techniques to their own personal/ professional challenge to create their own embodied awareness of the work

Bio:

JOY W. GOLDMAN RN, MS, PCC

Joy is a professionally certified coach with the International Coach Federation and a certified physician development coach. She is certified as a Narrative Coach Practitioner which she integrates into her coaching to provide real change in real time. Her over 35 years’ healthcare experience in both community-based and academic medical centers provides real world knowledge of the challenges facing physicians and health care leaders today. Joy’s mission is to inspire leaders to reconnect with their purpose to improve care for all.

Joy is the Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner for SixSEED Partners, LLC whose mission is to provide integrated solutions to heal healthcare. She is also the President for Viewfinder Coaching and Consulting LLC which is committed to making healthcare healthier for those who work within healthcare and those who are treated by it.

Joy’s work has included executive, leadership and physician coaching to support culture change and sustainable systemic results. She has created and implemented executive onboarding and succession planning systems to ensure continuity in leadership effectiveness and systemic increases in leadership capacity. Joy is an affiliate coach with Healthy Companies International: The Healthy Leader, and The Physician Leadership Institute. Joy is also a mentor coach within Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership, and in 2017, Joy was President for the International Coach Federation, Maryland Chapter.

Joy has been published in The Library of Professional Coaching and The Physician Leadership Journal. Joy has a special interest in the application of vertical development and somatic/ nonverbal methods to support leaders in managing complexity so that learning, performance, and vitality are achieved. Joy holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Human Resources and Organizational Development from Johns Hopkins University; a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University; and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University. Joy is credentialed in the Hogan Leadership Forecast Series and the Leadership Circle Profile 360, as well as numerous other behavioral and personality assessment tools, including Polarity Thinking.
